Visitors to Telford will be getting a warmer welcome with a set of newly installed signs.

The signs, which feature the iconic Thomas Telford statue, have been placed across the borough as part of the legacy of Telford 50.

Councillor Rae Evans, cabinet member for tourism, said: ‘Welcoming people to our borough with new, modern signs illustrating iconic Telford landmarks is a great legacy of Telford 50.”

They can be spotted on the A5, Castle Farm Way, A442 Brockton, A5223 Lawley, B5061 Holyhead Road, A4169 Buildwas, A5223 Whitchurch Drive, A518 Clocktower and A442 Shawbirch.

And another set of signs featuring the Iron Bridge will be installed across the south of Telford in the coming months.

The installation of the new Welcome to Telford signs is one of the many projects funded by the £2 million Telford 50 Legacy Fund.

The fund supports a mix of physical schemes as well as other projects that help tackle key social issues in the borough and reduce demand on council services.

Other projects have included refurbishing Telford Square, including the Thomas Telford statue itself.

And in the coming months new lights will be installed on the Iron Bridge.

Money will also be spent on renovating Telford Town Park, tackling homelessness in the borough and improving war memorials.
