'No evidence of racist chanting' at Telford cup clash with Whitchurch
An investigation has found no evidence of racism at a cup match between AFC Telford United and Whitchurch Alport.
Racist chanting was alleged to have been aimed at stand in Bucks skipper Matthew Barnes-Homer during the penalty shoot out in the Huddersfield Cup, which was won by Alport at their Yockings Park ground.
An investigation was launched but following reviews of photo and video evidence, as well as communication with supporters in the area, Alport found no evidence of racism.
A spokesperson for AFC Telford United said: "Following a full investigation from Whitchurch Alport, AFC Telford United are happy to have been informed that there is no evidence to suggest any racial chanting took place at the Huddersfield Cup tie last week.
"Both photographic and video evidence had been presented as well as individual meeting’s with supporters who were stood behind the goal when the alleged incident took place.
"AFC Telford United would like to thank Whitchurch for all their support in this matter and we would like to wish them all the very best for the rest of the season."
It comes after Bucks boss Gavin Cowan said he believed he heard racist noises from behind the goal and called for Alport to ban anyone found responsible.
