Bomb squad searches Telford allotment site
A bomb disposal squad searched a Telford allotment site after reports of a possible unexploded device.
Multiple police cars and vans could be seen at Randlay allotments in Randlay Avenue from about 6am today before a bomb disposal unit arrived at about 8.30am.
The site was locked down and allotment holders were turned away while police dealt with the incident.
Following thorough searches by bomb and military experts, police confirmed nothing of concern was found.
Officers were still on scene at 10.30am offering reassurance to the public.
Dave Williams, who has an allotment at Randlay, said: "I was up there this morning to water my tomatoes and there were about 10 police cars. Then a bomb disposal van turned up.
"The police wouldn't tell me anything, but the guy in the local shop said they'd been there since about 6am. I don't know what's been found or what's going on."
Detective Inspector Barry Spencer said: “This morning we carried out a search at Randlay Avenue Allotments in Randlay, Telford after we received information that there might have been an unexploded device buried there. We worked with military experts to safely carry out a search and the allotments were vacated as a precaution. Our search has now concluded with no device found and the site is back open. I’d like to thank those that use the allotments for their patience.“
