Balvir Singh, 48, was caught tearing along the A5 westbound at Overley Bank in his BMW X3 on May 30 last year.

The self-employed carpenter said that his wife was ill at the time and he was rushing to be at her side.

Singh, of Chatfield, Slough, pleaded guilty to speeding on the 70mph dual carriageway when he appeared at Telford Magistrates Court.

He said that he needed to continue driving as it was only his income that supported his family.

Magistrates issued a ban and also fined him £600. He was also ordered to pay additional costs of £145.
