Ironbridge Power Station plans to be submitted in the autumn

Owners Harworth said they were working on their draft plans, and that a second public consultation event would be held in late spring.

It comes after the company submitted its environmental scoping report, laying out potential issues that building work could face in terms of the environment.

Telford & Wrekin Council will consider the report and will either confirm it or amend it ahead of plans being submitted.

Iain Thomson, of Harworth, said: "We are still working towards submitting a planning application in the autumn but we will be further consulting with the public on our draft plans at a second public consultation event to be held in late Spring, with the event covering the latest masterplan and the timetable for submitting the application. This will be advertised locally and via the parish council over the next few weeks.

The environmental scoping report is not a planning application, but it sets out the environmental issues which Harworth think should be addressed with any eventual planning application.

"The council considers the scoping report and either confirms or amends the report. Harworth will then address the environmental issues in our pre-planning application work in 2019."

Although no final plans have been confirmed, Harworth ran a consultation on what people would want from the site.

Hundreds of homes will be built, and could include retirement living, family housing, starter homes and a holiday village.

Other suggestions include a park and ride, a business hub, an art gallery and a farmers' market.

Alongside the power station, there is also a former social club including redundant sports pitches, timber pavilion and golf course on the site, as well as borrow pits, pulverised fuel ash landfill waste tips and a rail siding to remove.

A contractor has now been selected to start the demolition on the site, and clearance will begin in the late spring.
