The gates were taken from the back of the Fletcher Methodist Church in Court Street, Madeley.

They were taken at some point between Friday morning and Saturday morning.

A spokesman for Madeley's safer neighbourhood team said: "Gates go missing, but certainly not from churches. They are quite unique, with a picture of Jesus on them.

"If you see them, you will know them. It would take a lot of work to get them."

Anybody with information about the theft is asked to get in touch with police by calling 101 and citing incident number 0259s 020319.

Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or at crimestoppers-uk.org

The Grade Two listed church, which is currently being renovated, was targeted by vandals in January last year.

Thousands of pounds worth of damage was done to the building, although nothing was stolen.
