Fire crews rescue car from flood water near Newport and warn drivers not to risk it
A family whose car was stranded in flood water were pulled to safety – with the fire service warning drivers not to risk it with flooding affecting roads across the county.
The incident happened at around 10.35am on Adeney Road near Newport.
The Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said it had been called about one vehicle stuck in flood water and dispatched a crew from Telford Central to help.
A winch was used to get the vehicle out of the water and the fire service declared the incident over around an hour after the first call.
Following the incident fire service station manager Craig Jackson urged people not to risk it by trying to drive through flood water.
He said the fire control room was receiving a number of calls about incidents across the county.
Writing on social media he said: "We are receiving calls for vehicles stuck in flood water and our team from Telford Central have just rescued a family from a vehicle.
"Many roads are still flooded."
He urged people to visit the fire service's website for information about safety in the face of flood water.
It has since emerged that a second vehicle has also been stranded, with Mr Jackson posting a picture of it alongside another warning not to take chances driving through flood water.
He said: "It doesn’t take much water to damage your vehicle or put your life at risk.
"If you do get caught out and feel that you are in danger then please call 999. If your vehicle requires recovery then please seek a recovery company."
