Man seriously injured as car comes off road in Newport crash

A man was taken to hospital with serious injuries following a car crash last night.

The crash took place on Stafford Road in Newport at around 8.30pm.

The ambulance service, police, and four fire crews were sent to the scene after reports that a person was injured.

It has now been confirmed that a man was taken to hospital in Stoke after being treated for serious injuries at the scene.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said that the car had come off the road.

Four fire crews from Newport, Telford Central and Wellington, attended and used cutting equipment to help with the rescue.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of an RTC on Stafford Road in Newport at around 8.30pm.

"Two ambulances, a MERIT trauma doctor and the Air Ambulance Critical Care Car from Cosford were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews discovered a car had come off the road and been involved in a collision.

"The driver, a man, was treated for serious injuries by ambulance staff and taken to the major trauma centre at Stoke University Hospital for further treatment."
