Staff devastated as thousands of pounds' worth of bikes are stolen from Telford shop
Staff at a Telford cycle shop have been devastated by the theft of thousands of pounds worth of bikes.
Saturday Cycles, in Wellington, was broken into overnight on Monday and the theft was discovered when owner Dave Taylor opened up on Tuesday morning.
Twelve bikes were taken, a mixture of new ones and customers that were due to be repaired. The value is thought to be around £10,000. Among the items taken were a Bianchi Impulso road bike, a Focus (White) MTB large frame bike and a specialised children's MTB with front suspension and 20 inch wheels.
The shop only opened early this year at a unit at Market Approach after previously trading from the market itself. Owner Dave, who was made redundant from his full time job in 2020 previously only opened on a Saturday hence the name.
But he found demand massive and took on the unit next to the market in January. He provides repairs, servicing and maintenance of all types of bike as well as selling them
Dave said: "They got in through a side passage door because we have a big front window with steel shutters behind it so even if they managed to smash the window they wouldn't have got in.
"I am devastated more for the customers who have had bikes taken because you don't expect to have that happen - we are going through a list now to see what will be covered by the shop's insurance."
Messages of support were made on the shop's Facebook page when the news was posted.
Dave Spencer-Brown said: "Absolutely terrible, I know it’s easier said than done Dave but keep doing what you do, providing a great service for the local cycling community, we will all keep a sharp lookout and fingers crossed the bikes may be recovered."
Katharine Gillespie said: "So sorry to read this. Share some pictures of the bikes & we'll all keep an eye out for them. Hope you can keep the shop running. I don't know what we'd do without you and the excellent service you provide."
