New Volvo ES90 will add 186 miles of electric range in 10 minutes
The Swedish firm’s upcoming electric saloon will boast 800-volt technology.

Volvo has announced that its new ES90 electric saloon will be one of the fastest-charging electric vehicles to hit the road.
The car will feature 800-volt technology, which Volvo claims will add 186 miles of range in 10 minutes from a 350kW DC rapid charger.
In addition, the Swedish firm claims that the new ES90 will be able to travel up to 435 miles on a single charge.
Anders Bell, chief engineering and technology officer at Volvo Cars, said: “Our 800V technology marks another significant technological upgrade for our customers as we move towards full electrification. It makes our electric cars even more efficient, and helps you charge your electric Volvo faster and go further on a single charge.”
The higher voltage of 800V technology means that it can deliver more power and range – but generates less heat, making the battery able to charge at faster speeds of up to 350kW.

Also, the technology allows for lighter electric motors and components, which reduces the vehicle’s overall weight and makes it more efficient.
The ES90 will be Volvo’s first electric saloon model and will be competing with cars such as the Audi A6 e-tron and BMW i5.
Volvo will reveal the ES90 on March 5 with further details of its powertrain, prices and specifications to follow at a later date.
