Marian Giles, town clerk for Church Stretton, has tendered her notice and will be leaving the town council at the end of July.

Michael Braid, who has been voted in a mayor for coming year, said she was moving on to take up a part time post in the north of Shropshire, where she lives.

Councillor Braid, who served as mayor before Michael Walker, who has been in the role for the past two years, said: “We are very sorry to be losing Marian. We have had a great three years working together, and some significant projects have been achieved with her help and guidance during that time.”

The vacancy for a new clerk will be advertised shortly, he said, and anyone interested in further information on the post should contact the town council office for an application pack on 01694 722113.

Mrs Giles is the second south Shropshire town clerk to announce that they are moving on as Mary Seldon is also leaving that role at Bishop's Castle Town Council, which is seeking a qualified clerk to take over, working 18 to 22 hours per week.

Details on how to apply can be downloaded online at www.bishopscastle.co.uk, or by calling Bishop's Castle Town Hall at 01588 638141.

Councillor Jane Carroll has been voted in as Bishop's Castle mayor for the coming year.
