Bridgnorth town clerk steps down after eight years

Anne Wilson, who is understood to have been suspended in September, has now left the council.

A statement from Ms Wilson said: "Following some personal reflection I have made a decision to leave Bridgnorth Town Council in order to be able to spend more time caring for my family.

"I would like to take this opportunity to say that I have enjoyed representing Bridgnorth as a town clerk and the work, projects and events that I have undertaken at the town council, working alongside councillors, community organisations and the residents of Bridgnorth and I wish all the best for the future the town and the new town clerk.

"I would also like to clarify that contrary to postings in the local press and on social media to the best of my knowledge all employment policies and procedures have been correctly followed during the course of my employment with Bridgnorth Town Council."

A memo leaked to the Shropshire Star last year, purporting to be from mayor Ron Whittle OBE, stated councillors had been ‘advised of the suspension’.

A statement from Mayor Ron Whittle added: "On behalf of the council I wish to make a statement on behalf of Anne Wilson, Bridgnorth Town Clerk.

"Circumstances have meant that Anne has been absent from work for the last few months. Following reflection during this time she has decided to step down from her role as town clerk to enable her to spend more time caring for her family.

"Anne has worked for the council for nearly eight years and she has been a town clerk for more than 26 years. She has been a valued member of staff during her tenure at Bridgnorth. My fellow councillors and I would like to wish Anne the best of luck in her future endeavours."
