Campaigners were holding a demonstration in Shrewsbury Quarry at 1pm.

A spokesman for the "Kill the Bill" movement, said: "Momentum is building to oppose the Policing Bill. Come out on the street with out allies. Together, we will put pressure on the government to kill the bill.

It is one of a number of protests organised nationally against the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts (PCSC) Bill, which will increase police powers to crack down on protests.

Those attending the protest have been encouraged to wear masks and socially distance by organisers.

A demonstration against the bill in Bristol on March 21 descended into a riot when around 500 people marched on Bridewell Police Station, set fire to police vehicles and attacked the station.
