Date Shropshire local elections will take place - with 23 newly named divisions

Local elections will be held in Shropshire on May 1 – with all Shropshire Council and town and parish councils up for grabs.

Due to boundary changes, there will be 23 newly named divisions. These are:

Bayston Hill; Bicton Heath; Bridgnorth Castle; Bridgnorth South and Alveley; Claverley and Worfield; Column and Sutton; Craven Arms; Market Drayton East and Rural; Market Drayton North; Market Drayton South; Oswestry North; Oswestry North East; Oswestry South East; Oteley and Reabrook; Selattyn and Gobowen; Shifnal Rural; Shifnal South; Stottesdon, Kinlet and Hopton Wafers; Sundorne and Old Heath; The Strettons, and Whitchurch West.

In total, there will be 74 councillors in 72 divisions. However, there will be changes to the number of councillors at the following divisions: Bridgnorth West and Tasley (two to one); Cleobury Mortimer (two to one); St Martin’s (one to two); and Whitchurch North (two to one.)

Anyone wishing to stand as a councillor should send in their nominations by 4pm on April 2, with a list of candidates being published by 4pm the following day.

Poll cards will be posted to registered voters from March 14, with the deadline for registering being midnight on April 11.

Anyone wishing to vote by post must apply by 5pm on April 14, with proxy vote nominations needing to be applied for by 5pm on April 23.

Polling stations will open from 7am to 10pm on May 1, with verification and counting of votes taking place at Shrewsbury Sports Village on May 2 and 3.
