Voters will be going to the polls on Thursday, May 1, with the count taking place at Shrewsbury Sports Village the following day.

Currently, the Conservatives hold the largest majority with 37 councillors. However, whatever happens in the elections, there will be a new leader of the adminstration after Councillor Lezley Picton announced she won’t be seeking re-election after serving the role for the past four years.

Councillor Dean Carroll, portfolio holder for housing and assets, has also said he won’t be standing this time around.

The largest opposition party is the Liberal Democrats with 18 councillors, followed by Labour (nine), the Independents (five) and Greens (three).

There are 23 new divisions this year, while some will have a different number of councillors.
