The event, held at NFU Cymru HQ in Llanelwedd, Builth Wells, gave NFU Cymru members from across Wales the opportunity to raise questions about key agricultural issues to a figure from each political party ahead of the General Election in June.

Those present included Glyn Davies, Conservative prospective parliamentary candidate for Montgomeryshire; Dan Lodge, Labour prospective parliamentary candidate for Brecon & Radnorshire; James Gibson-Watt, Liberal Democrat prospective parliamentary candidate for Brecon & Radnorshire; Neil Hamilton, UKIP AM for Mid & West Wales and prospective parliamentary candidate for Carmarthen East & Dinefwr; Simon Thomas, Plaid Cymru AM for Mid & West Wales.

Among the topics discussed during the hustings were Brexit, international trade, future funding and support for agriculture, food labelling, public procurement, rural services, broadband and bovine TB.

NFU Cymru President Stephen James said: "It is less than a month since Prime Minister Theresa May called the snap General Election and I am pleased that NFU Cymru has been quick to arrange this hustings. There can be little doubt that this upcoming vote will be one of the most important in living memory, so it was vital that our members were able to get a good idea about where each party stands on farming issues before heading to the polls on June 8.

"The importance of agriculture cannot be understated and I’d like to thank each of the party representatives for joining us today for a lively debate about the issues that matter to the industry."

NFU Cymru will be hosting local hustings events across Wales in the lead up to the General Election. Further details will be available at nfu-cymru.org.uk
