Fresh plans for more than 100 homes in Ellesmere

Fresh plans have been unveiled to create more than 100 homes in a market town.

The homes south of The Hawthorns in Ellesmere were given planning permission by Shropshire Council in 2014.

At the time councillors raised concerns about traffic in the area.

The new plans show the total number of homes have been reduced by 17 houses from 131 homes to 114.

The proposed layout also includes plans for a central area of public open space that incorporates the existing matures trees on the site.

Helen Howie, planning consultant for agents Berrys, said: "This area will have a parkland atmosphere allowing for informal recreational use under the tree canopies.

"The central area of open space has also been designed to link with a landscaped buffer along the western edge of the site.

"The joining of the two areas of public open space will provide a green corridor into the development, softening the boundary of the town with the countryside edge.

"The central open space will allow for informal recreation use by the residents.

"All existing trees will be retained and their root protection zones respected.

"The existing trees have been designed to be harmonious into the development with the areas of open space and gardens providing suitable buffer zones."

Seven housetype designs are proposed across the development, including detached, semi detached and terrace housing.

In addition 11 affordable homes are provided across the scheme and two off-road parking spaces per house.

Ms Howie said: "The site is in a sustainable location with a wide range of services and facilities within walking distance.

"The scheme protects the natural environment, with no adverse impact on existing trees and provides additional planting, bird and bat boxes to benefit wildlife.

"The proposed development improves the range of housing choice in the local market, including 14 affordable homes.

"Individual house designs have been chosen to provide attractive street scenes within the development."
