Drop-in evening for Ludlow flats scheme

The information evening in Ludlow is to show people what the new Beech Gardens development will look like – and invite anyone who might want to live there to show their interest.

The new complex is planned to be built on the site of the former maisonettes on Ludlow’s Sandpits Road, which were demolished last year.

Permission for the new homes was granted after tenants were moved out of the maisonettes which were deemed by Shropshire Housing Group to be no longer fit for purpose in 2015.

Beech Gardens will include 22 flats and four bungalows, exclusively for elderly and frail people who want to live independently in their own home. The development is planned to link with the Whitefrairs community next door, to make a larger sheltered living complex.

The drop in evening will take place tomorrow between 5pm and 7pm at Whitefriars Community Room, aimed at individuals and couples looking to move into the bungalows and apartments when they are completed early next year.

It will also give potential residents the opportunity to see computer generated images of the finished site and floors plans of each new property.

Paul Sutton, executive director for assets and development at Shropshire Housing Group, said: “We are going to be creating something really special with Beech Gardens.

“More and more people want to live independently in old age and a scheme like this gives them that opportunity.

“We see Beech Gardens as a blueprint for the future and a scheme which Ludlow should be proud of.”

He said the properties will offer a "high level of design, rivalling the very best private developer," with glazed inner patios, which can be opened up when the weather is fine, to give residents an all year-round garden.

Onsite facilities will include a launderette and there will be optional service packages for residents to choose as much or a little help they require.

Support staff will be on hand at the drop-in evening to help with applications and assessments. Family members can also attend to make enquiries without the actual applicant if they wish.
