The frontage of the Horse and Jockey on Jockey Bank would be kept as it is, although there would be the addition of Victorian French doors to the rear of the building.

It would be renamed The Old Horse and Jockey in memory of its long history if permission is granted by Telford & Wrekin Council.

The pub was well known for its pies and frequently reached the finals of competitions nationally.

Pie fan: Harry Hill.

It also became a favourite of comic Harry Hill, who was hand-delivered a steak and kidney pie by the Shropshire Star when he was performing in Nottingham on tour during the 1990s.

"We first found the place when I was on tour a couple of years ago and whenever we’re back in the Midlands we try to get hold of them somehow," the TV Burp star said at the time.

"The problem with most pie makers is that they skimp on the kidney. These pies from the Horse and Jockey are fantastic, the best I’ve ever tasted."

The pub has been marketed since September 2008 with no success.

Planning permission has been granted to in 2014 to convert the building into two flats.

This new application has been put in by a prospective buyer, who is said to be both local to the area and concious of "the necessity for sympathetic renovations".

First floor flats have been redesigned to house five bedrooms and a family bathroom, while the ground floor pub has been redesigned to incorporate a kitchen and diner with adjoining utility, lounge, dining and study room.

A decision will be made by Telford & Wrekin Council in the coming months.
