Telford garage block could make way for six new flats
A garage block in Telford could be demolished to make way for six flats.
Plans to demolish the existing block of garages, at the junction of Maurice Lee Avenue and Oldcroft in Oakengates, have been submitted to Telford and Wrekin Council.
The application, which has been submitted by Base Architecture & Design on behalf of Norman Quin Developments, would replace the garage block with two two-bedroom flats and four one-bedroom flats.
The application is subject to approval by the council.
A design and access statement submitted with the application states: "The garages were built in the 1970s and are generally too small for today’s car.
"Over the last 10 to 15 years the garages have been rented by small businesses and used as storage but more recently they have been mostly left vacant and unused.
"The few that are currently rented out are earning less than market rent and the owners have trouble securing insurance on the garages due to previous incidents of vandalism and theft. The latest incident was a garage break-in last year.
"The proposal replaces an existing block of 14 under-used and dilapidated garages with two two-bedroom flats and four one-bedroom flats within two building.
"The proposals provide a viable alternative to the garages in a residential area close to existing amenities. The scale of the proposal has been carefully considered taking into account the feedback received from the pre-application submissions."
