Plan is submitted for 45 apartments in Shrewsbury
A new apartment block made up of 45 homes could be built near a golf course, paving the way for a hotel and restaurant on the same site.
Morris & Co want to turn the current Oteley Bungalow and adjoining land north of Oteley Road, Shrewsbury, into a new complex.
The site is close to the Meole Brace golf course, Shrewsbury Town’s Montgomery Waters Meadow stadium and the Meole Brace retail park.
Plans have been submitted to Shropshire Council this week and will be decided on in the coming weeks.
The application document, submitted by Base Architects, said: “This statement supports the full planning application for 45 apartments and associated vehicular and pedestrian access to the site north of Oteley Road.
“The site is allocated for development under the Shropshire Council Site Allocations and Management of Development (SAMDev) Plan.
“The proposed site for the apartments is to the east side of the wider site while the remaining (west) portion of the wider site is likely to be the subject of a separate planning application (being submitted by others) for a carvery format pub and a lodge building.
“The site sits to the east of Meole Brace Golf Course, opposite a row of semi-detached dwellings (to the south side of Oteley Road), and to the west of the Taylor Wimpey ‘Sutton Grange’ housing development.
“Further housing development is presently under construction to the north of the site.”
It added: “The submitted proposal is for two apartment buildings with a total of 45 apartments over three storeys.
“While the most of the accommodation is for two-bedroom apartments, the roofspace of Building A (the larger of the two buildings) is also proposed to be utilised for flexible bedroom accommodation, offering the upper floor apartments duplex accommodation and the opportunity to include either a third bedroom or increased living space on their lower floor.
“Nine of the apartments will be identified as affordable apartments.”
The plan adds: “The site is presently vacant but has been used for agricultural use and a plant nursery in the past.
“The bungalow is similarly vacant at present. The site is in a sustainable location and benefits from a nearby bus service with bus stops in both Sutton Farm and Meole Brace Retail Park.
“A cycle route runs along the Oteley Road, immediately past the site.”
The plans are likely to appear before the Central Planning Committee this summer.
