In the 1960s, a pair of three-bedroom semi-detached cottages in the picturesque village of Badger, near Bridgnorth, were turned into four flats.
Now, plans have been submitted to Shropshire Council to turn the Grade II-listed building back into two homes.
Over the years, the thatched 17th-century building has been enlarged, with a northeast single-storey extension and a two-storey extension to the rear.
The latest proposals involve the refurbishment of the interior of the building to form two homes in place of the existing flats.
They also involve the demolition of the 20th-century northeast single-storey extension to provide new vehicular access and a separate parking space.
Works also include the replacement of electrics and heating and new kitchen and bathroom facilities.
The application states: "The proposal does not involve the creation of additional floor space, or significant structural modifications to the property.
"Thermal improvements will be made to roof spaces and external wall surfaces on the first floor, with no impact on the external appearance of the property.
"All electrical, plumbing and heating installations will be removed and replaced to meet current building standards.
"Care has been taken to ensure that the proposal is within the character of the building and will be of benefit to the maintenance and longevity of the property."
