Part-time traffic lights being switched on at Telford's Randlay Interchange

Part time traffic lights will be switched on at Randlay Interchange in Telford tonight in an effort to improve the journey for commuters from Stafford Park.

The improvements aim to reduce congestion during evening peak times. The new lights are the first part-time traffic lights in the borough and will be on from 4pm to 7pm from Monday to Friday.

Telford & Wrekin Council said that the move would "significantly benefit" vehicles trying to leave Stafford Park. Timings of the lights will be reviewed once they are fully operational.

They hope the part time signals will also make it easier to manage traffic during major events in the town centre, Telford Town Park and The International Centre.

Councillor Angela McClements, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Transport, said: “This roundabout is particularly congested at peak times and during major events.

“It is likely to become even busier as the borough continues to grow, particularly with the T54 site attracting new inward investment and creating more jobs.

“These part time traffic lights are on the exit slips from the A442 and the circulatory with the aim of managing the flow of traffic in the busiest periods. The lights will be switched on permanently from today.”

The Telford Growth Point package has seen a series of transport infrastructure changes aimed at supporting the creation of jobs and new homes.

The investment is aimed at increasing the capacity of the transport network to allow for future anticipated growth and inward investment.

Other roundabouts that have benefited from the Growth Point package investment are Limekiln Bank, Ketley Brook, Donnington's Clock Tower, Shawbirch and Trench Lock.
