Drivers are being diverted in Shrewsbury while a four-mile stretch of the A5 is shut overnight for resurfacing and new road markings.

The roadworks, which started last night, will see the route from Churncote to Felton Butler closed between 8pm and 6am.

Elsewhere in the town, motorists can expect delays along the A488 Radbrook Road next week when multi-way traffic signals started on October 16 for two days while Severn Trent carry out work.

The works are the latest in a long stretch of road closures to have hit the road in the last few months and in Bridgnorth, the ongoing bypass saga continues – with more closures set along the A458 route this month.

Four road closures can be expected in the next month. The bypass between the Kidderminster Road roundabout and the Ludlow Road roundabout will be closed for surfacing over the River Severn Bridge from 8pm on Friday to 6am on Saturday.

The same section of road will be shut overnight between October 23 and 24 and November 6 and 7, while long delays are expected from October 24 at 8pm to the 26 at 6am while the bypass is shut.

Steve Davenport, Shropshire Council’s cabinet member for highways and transport thanked people for their patience and promised the works would be beneficial.

“The bypass scheme will see some important work carried out on one of the county’s most important roads, and road users will see big improvements once the work is complete," he said.

“I hope most people will agree that this work is important, and that the long-term benefits will far outweigh the short-term inconvenience. I therefore thank them for their patience and understanding while this work is carried out.”

The work on road and the roundabout approaches between the A458/B4373 junction and the Stourbridge Road roundabout remain due to finish by 10 November, according to Shropshire Council.

Works to the safety barriers, street lighting and drainage over the entire site have been ongoing and will continue until November during midweek daytime hours.

This will involve further periods where both the Ludlow Road Roundabout, the Kidderminster Road Roundabout and the Wenlock Road Junction will be controlled under traffic signals at various times – with these signals are being manually controlled at peak times.

Coalport High Street near Ironbridge will be shut outside the Shakespeare Inn for four days from October 16 for essential gas works. This is set to add more than ten minutes on the journey of those driving down the narrow roads.

This week the A41 Albrighton bypass is shut overnight until Thursday while Shropshire Council remove a tree on the road.

It will be closed between the hours of 8pm and 6am each day.
