A bus operator has extended its Sunday service to take in other parts of Shrewsbury after the success of its initial route.

Easybus launched its service to Harlescott earlier this month and the route, via Mount Pleasant Road and York Road was so successful the company has now started to run a number 24 service to Tesco, Harlescott, through Castlefields and in to Sundorne via The Parks and Moston Road.

Residents living in the Mount Pleasant area of the town have raised some concerns about service but have generally welcomed the number 28s service, which operates from 9.50am until just before 6pm.

Shropshire Council axed six Sunday bus routes in March 2015 when grant funding ran out.

The buses – which carried 32,800 passengers a year and linked the town centre with Monkmoor, Gains Park, the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, Radbrook Green, Harlescott, Sutton Farm and Bayston Hill – were initially cancelled in 2011.

But they were brought back due to public demand after funding was secured from the Local Sustainable Transport Fund.
