Wellington Station will get the new facilities, along with plans to get traders operating within the station.

The centre will be built with the help of GoCarz. The taxi firm said it was working hard to help promote Wellington, both through the new section of the station and through a series of videos it has produced about the town's market.

Fay Easton, of the Friends of Wellington Station group and who runs The Little Business Company in Market Square, said the support of Go Carz had been invaluable.

"Initially they became a sponsor of the station improvement campaign but they have continued their association by supporting the town in a variety of ways.

“We’re now organising the use of the Go Carz office on the station platform as a fully manned community resource and we are currently discussing how best to do that.

“We are aiming for a Visitor Information service as well as a town promotional centre to tell the regular train users about the great shops and businesses within Wellington. Our joint mission is to drive increased levels of trade for the town centre.”

Go Carz director Cindy Wilday said: "“We love Wellington and from talking with Fay and other volunteers we appreciate the need to give the town centre a boost.

“By helping to promote the town centre, station and market, we hope we can give a little something back to those people who help support our business.

"So we are using our community website, Go Telford, and our Facebook page, to highlight the amazing shops and traders in Wellington and we’re calling this campaign Secret Shops of Wellington.

“There are so many fantastic traders providing an array of wonderful products in this town, and we think more people need to know about them."
