Pothole problem 'shakes' Shropshire couple's house
A disgruntled homeowner has hit out at Shropshire Council for failing to repair a pothole directly outside his home.
David Martin, who lives on the A41, between Whitchurch and Market Drayton, said his whole house "shakes" when lorries drive through it in the early hours of the morning – abruptly waking him and his wife up during the night.
His wife, Janet, who has recently been diagnosed with type two diabetes, had to move out of their home due to the disturbances during the night, affecting her health.
Mr Martin originally reported to pothole to Shropshire Council in January, and was told that someone would be out to fix it on March 6 – but they failed to turn up.

He said: "I am very angry about the whole thing now. The whole of our house shakes when lorries drive through it in the early hours of the morning. It wakes us up every night.
"My wife was recently diagnosed with diabetes and the doctor advised her she needed to get plenty of rest – but she can't sleep at night because of the pothole waking us up at half two every morning. She had to move out of the house to get some rest.
"I reported it to the council in January because it was keeping us awake – and it is now March and nothing has been done about, it's just a joke.
"The pothole is one foot in diameter and about four inches deep and it is in the centre of the road. When the lorries drive through it, it makes such a loud bump.
"I will fill it in myself if they don't do anything about it. I am very frustrated with it all."
A spokesman for Shropshire Council said they were aware of the pothole outside Mr Martin's property.
Victoria Doran, highways manager for north east, added: "We are aware of the defect that Mr Martin is referring to.
"Clearly, there are delays with some repairs as they could not be undertaken during the recent adverse weather and sub-zero temperatures.
"However, our contractors Ringway are working to repair any outstanding defects."
