Engineering work will be carried out on the line at Birmingham on Sunday – meaning some trains will have to stop in Wolverhampton.

Passengers who use Arriva Trains Wales may have to get off at Wolverhampton to carry on to Birmingham.

James Nicholas, of Arriva Trains Wales, said: "Wherever at all possible we'll be strengthening services, but ultimately passengers will travel on from Wolverhampton.

"From Wolverhampton you can get a direct train to London or travel on to Birmingham.

"We will be doing all we can to get passengers moving."

Those travelling to Birmingham will be able to use the same ticket to complete their journey, despite a change in provider.

"Ultimately Network Rail need to do what they need to do," Mr Nicholas said.

"It's a three-day engineering block and only some lines are open into Birmingham.

"This is an intensive bit of engineering, and obviously it is for the greater benefit of the railway. You need to do that investment, but sometimes the timing doesn't always suit everybody.

"It's not as ideal as it could be – but we'll strengthen everything we can."
