As many were heading into the county town to welcome Queen Camilla on Wednesday, a broken down vehicle on the A5 was causing carnage for drivers.

Police reported a vehicle had broken down on the Edgebold Roundabout at around 9.45am.

Officers encouraged drivers to find an alternative route while the vehicle awaited recovery.

West Mercia Police said the road had fully reopened shortly after 11.15am, however at around 11.50am the force reported that traffic was down to one lane westbound between the Dobbies and Edgebold roundabouts due to two broken down vehicles stranded in the live lane.

Shortly before midday queues were stretching back to Emstrey Roundabout on the A5 and through Bayston Hill on the A49, but the road was reported as clear by around 12.45pm.

A number of road closures throughout Shrewsbury were also in place on Wednesday due to the royal visit.

Wyle Cop from English Bridge to High Street, High Street, Milk Street, Market Street, Princess Street, The Square, Shoplatch and Bellstone are due to be closed until around 2pm.
