Letter: Heartened by MP's passion but target wrong
I was really heartened and inspired to see a Member of Parliament going blue in the face with exasperation and indignation at what is going on in this country.
Whatever our political beliefs we have to trust that they are blowing a fuse because they are passionate in their beliefs and that it may have some impact on our country or on the majority of the people within the constituency, they are paid to serve.
So, it was interesting to see Shrewsbury MP Daniel Kawczynski screaming like a banshee through last week's PMQs (watch it, it is amusing) to the point of him being ridiculed by the Speaker and accused of behaving in a bizarre way, and being told to 'calm down and get a grip'.
Well, everyone is entitled to be passionate about something and this is what we expect from our MPs.
But, hang on, he was bursting an artery, not about anything of importance to his constituency or country but in the defence of the now-disgraced Tory Chief Whip.
Four weeks ago Mr Mitchell encountered armed police officers who, while on protection duty in Downing Street, had politely refused to open a gate due to security issues. But Mr Mitchell had wanted to use it.
The police were then subjected to a barrage of abuse such as 'Do you know who I am', 'you pleb', 'you moron' alongside a string of foulmouthed expletives.
Well Mr Kawczynski, I applaud your belligerent attitude, and hope you give the same amount of vocal energy to protect the people of Shrewsbury and all who will suffer from the cuts to public services for the disabled, the sick, the unemployed and the vulnerable.
We wait for the same vehemence you gave in the defence of the now thoroughly discredited Right Honourable Gentleman.
