Letter: Supermarkets have it all under one roof
I hope councils don't bow to demands for a tax on out of town supermarkets, because, by their very location, they take the congestion away from places such as Shrewsbury centre.
Why drive into congested town centres and park with difficulty and great expense, then struggle with heavy shopping that has been transported in by great lorries – it's nonsense.
Examples of the public voting with their feet are shown by the closure of the Riverside Co-op store, in Shrewsbury, with poor trading performance blamed.
However, this is not an isolated incident as the Co-op is also closing their supermarkets in Welshpool and Newtown for the same reason.
People don't want to be told where they must shop, and will drive miles to find free parking, cheap prices and everything under one roof conveniently.
