Letter: Fireworks terrifying for animals

I write to thank Bournville Village Trust, Mr Kevin Webb, and participant organisations of the spectacular firework display at Lightmoor on the Friday evening of November 9.

Lightmoor certainly lived up to its name, not only lighting up the immediate vicinity, but all areas within half a mile or so.

I would like to say that my livestock enjoyed it too, but that would not be the truth. The truth is that it terrified them beyond belief.

The artillery ordinance partially deafened me and caused pain to my left ear. How much hurt/pain you inflicted upon my livestock by your assault I can only guess at and deduce from their violent and heart- rending reactions.

Oh, you all say, report the matter to Defra, your MP, local police, council etc, etc and they may be able to help. That's as likely as somebody saying we're very sorry and it won't happen again.

Is it acceptable to force such anti-social behaviour on unwilling captive animals including homo sapiens?

Please look up the words assault, considerate, violence, kindness, horrendous, cruelty, cataclysm, suffering, distress, disdain, arrogance and belligerence. Jesus said 'love one another as I have loved you'.
