Letter: Shifnal is suffering from traffic nightmare
I am wondering what the council of Shifnal is going to do to entice tourists to this small market town that it doesn't do already.
I mean, the streets are already clogged with traffic; the pavements are mostly clogged with traffic and vehicles and the car parks are not exactly heaving or in good repair are they?
Maybe we the public should walk in the road and let the cars etc use the pavements. At least we would have more room than we have now.
What with having to sometimes walk on the highway to avoid signs, vehicles and other obstructions it's a wonder some of us are not inhabiting hospital beds – there is already a shortage.
Perhaps the Tourist Board could come up with some leaflets and advertising asking tourists and the like to drop their cars on double yellows lines in The Grove, in and around Cheapside, Bradford Street and Market Street areas.
Already vehicles are queuing up on Cheapside to await a parking space outside the shops instead of going looking for a parking space.
They are obviously too lazy, but their laziness sometimes causes a tail back out into Bradford Street tailing back to wherever.
I have only ever once see a police constable move them on.
To finish, it's local businesses, employees and their customers who park on the The Grove and are using it as their own personal car park.
It's disgusting that these companies cannot inform their staff and customers alike that parking is not allowed in the vicinity.
Because there is no traffic enforcement in place these drivers should not be allowed to do what they want.
It's where we have to live and suffer from the constant noise and grief that this all causes.
