Letter: Twelve-hour nursing shifts are just appalling
I would like to draw attention to nurses working 12-hour shifts – which I find appalling. Care for sometimes frail/disabled people really is taxing on one's strength, both mentally and physically.

I have a niece in a Telford care home. Some of the carers looking after these extremely ill people already work 15-hour shifts, while others are still part-time.
I've had to care for three wheelchair people in my life and still tried to hold a part-time job. Believe me, all these hours need reducing – it's not a nine to five pen-pushing job.
Carers need time to switch off for the good of their own health and safety.
