Letter: Homes are needed now

Councillor Mal Price is mistaken when he says building large numbers of affordable homes is unachievable and undeliverable.

He is merely confirming that Shropshire Council is abdicating from its moral responsibility to provide Shropshire residents with the housing they need.

It is doing this because it gives priority to the financial fortunes of a very small number of property developers who have speculated by buying land they now claim has fallen in value. Surely, under the capitalist system, that is their hard luck?

A pro-active council with its voters' needs and best interests at heart would compulsorily purchase land at current prices and build the affordable housing this county desperately requires.
