Letter: Street Pastors provide help for youth
Does C. Morgan have some specialist attributes to decide who is or is not worthy of the attention and 'cosseting and indulging' of street pastors?
Street Pastors are there to help and be there for people leaving night clubs and pubs late at night.
They are not there to preach or evangelise, just to help and listen.
They have been well trained and are supported by the local police.
They provide a great service not only to clubbers, but also to the police, Accident & Emergency departments and to neighbouring properties.
In Telford and Wrekin, during 2012 there have been no arrests by the police when Street Pastors have been working, and they have defused many potential anti-social incidents.
They have rendered first aid on 38 occasions, reducing the need for visits to A & E and cleared away 475 bottles to litter bins.
They hand out flip-flops to girls in high heels, helping to avert leg and ankle injuries, and space blankets to prevent hypothermia. Bottles of water are distributed to prevent dehydration.
Young people do daft things sometimes. We don't want them to suffer injuries just because of that.
They will grow into better adults for having been given help and consideration, and hopefully NOT from people being judgemental.
