Letter: Why sweep roads that have just been gritted?

I have to ask those in charge at the appropriate department of the council, what the point is of sweeping roads which have been gritted only the previous evening?

Published

The sweeping of roads gritted in advance of imminent icy conditions does not only defeat the purpose but is also a serious waste of money and of fuel.

Any repeat gritting which may be made necessary by the pointless removal of the previous application, is a further waste of expenditure on the salt/sand, etc, used.

The saving of taxpayers' money is one good cause but even better if whatever proportion was passed back to us.
