Letter: No post is poor show despite weather
I have just been amazed at your editorial on Monday headed 'Remember workers who keep us going'.
With reference to postmen and women keeping us going, there have been no postal deliveries in Telford since last Thursday and they will probably not recommence until the sun shines and the snow has completely disappeared.
There is clearly no thought for the people who may be waiting for urgent mail for hospital appointments and the like which could be crucial in the arrangement of further treatment, or the more mundane daily events like birthdays or anniversaries which go unmarked when cards are delayed when the postie deems the conditions too bad to venture out.
I suppose we have to blame the good old 'elf and safety' watchdog for the current situation. But where is the spirit of old when we could rely on such organisations to battle through whatever the weather?
Surprisingly we pay a healthy premium for this not so 'premium' service and it begs the question: What do they do all day when they are not delivering our mail?
Do they get paid for sitting around or are they sent home on full pay and told to come back when the sun shines? I for one will think twice about using the so-called Royal Mail for my correspondence and consider using electronic mail wherever possible.
The possible closure of Royal Mail facilities is solely down to their inability to provide a frequent and reliable service to the fee-paying public.
