Letter: Always the older ones . . .
I fully agree with the recent survey that suggests older drivers should re-take their driving test; I don't think.
I have lost count of the times I have seen four or five older drivers crammed into a Citroen Saxo with tatty alloy wheels and loud exhaust roaring through towns blaring music whilst showing off to each other.
The A488 south of Hanwood has a sharp bend over the railway line where older drivers regularly lose control by going too fast and disappear through the hedge into the field where they are seen the next day with their mates, laughing at the damage they have caused.
Whenever I am tailgated I can tell from the glint from the false teeth that, once again, it is the manic older driver driving beyond his ability because he knows that with his lightning reactions he can defy physics and stop on a sixpence.
Whenever a car just leaves the road, as they do for no apparent reason, and hits a tree killing the driver and occupants it is always the menace of the older driver in action.
Whenever I want a comfortable ride observing the speed limits, reading the road conditions and showing respect for all other road users whilst knowing that I will arrive at my destination safe and sound, I seek out a young inexperienced or otherwise over confident driver every day.
I think not!
