Letter: Roads are not fit for purpose

The Government demands and receives road tax monies before the motorist even takes the vehicle on the highway (farm tracks).

The Government then fails to provide and maintain the roads "in a fit for purpose" condition leaving the majority of secondary and even major roads in a dismal state, thereby causing vehicle damage.

A commercial concern in the Governments position, I am sure could be taken to court and found to be in "breach of contract" of failing to provide a service they have been pre-paid for.

If the motorist failed to tax their vehicle they would be immediately prosecuted, so why should the Minister of Transport be allowed to treat them with such disregard?

We will soon all need rough terrain vehicles to even go shopping.
