Letter: Shrewsbury Dana prison tour tickets a disgrace
Having been a Shrewsbury resident for nearly 30 years and intrigued by the imposing building of the Dana Prison, I was delighted that tours would be available once the prison closed.
We eagerly kept an eye on local papers as it kept stating that allocation would be announced in the near future. I did notice, however, it never said when they would available but to keep checking the Heritage Open Days website.
This we did constantly, even on Saturday, July 27. Unfortunately, I was ill for a few days and the next we hear in the Shropshire Star is that the tours are fully booked. The allocation was only 520 tickets, over two days and no further tours are planned. Tickets were made available on July 28 and snapped up in 24-hours.
I feel this has been very poorly planned.
Why so few tickets? Why not just for local people ? Why not more dates ? Why was the allocation date kept such a secret?
Seems to me like those in the know got priority.
