Letter: Dresden justified

It amazes me that we are now being accused of committing a war crime concerning Sir Arthur "Bomber" Harris' fronting the bombing of Dresden where 25,000 people were killed.

Have they forgotten the amount of shipping sunk by Hitler's U-boats in a bid to try and starve this country into submission?

Have they forgotten The Battle of Britain where our brave RAF pilots, helped by flyers from other nations, fought off Hitler's Luftwaffe where we were outnumbered by at least five to one?

Have they forgotten Hitler's attempt to bomb us into submission with his raids on Coventry and London? In London alone over 28,000 were killed. This was war. If we are guilty of war crimes what about all the war crimes Hitler and his cohorts committed in all the countries he invaded?

I'm sorry but war is evil no matter who started it but 70 years on, I don't believe we should say sorry for what happened in Dresden. After all, have they apologised for all the war crimes they committed?

What's done is done, and as far as I am concerned it is much too late to make accusations of blame to one side or the other.

We all know what happened. Innocent people died because of corrupt and evil politicians. The sad thing as far as I am concerned is that, sadly, history tends to repeat itself.
