Letter: System is rigged
I voted on May 7. In fact in my 75 years I have never missed using my right to vote and I have to tell you that none of them made the slightest difference to anything.
The cynical and devious confidence-trick by David Cameron of "Vote Ukip and get Labour!" worked wonders for him and our inadequate election system has clearly shown that it is not fit for purpose when four million votes for Ukip equals one Parliamentary seat.
The system has been protected and preserved by standing politicians because it makes it very difficult for any new party to join the big three.
My last letter criticised the Tories' treatment of the working class and I forecast the return of the workhouse – I was amazed when I opened the paper the next day and saw the headline Lottery funding boost for workhouse – how's that for influence?
I now forecast that, if we even get a referendum on Europe, it will be fixed for us to stay in, continue to pay through the nose for the unidentifiable benefits of membership and continue to subsidise at least 20 of the 28 member countries – including France.
It always was the worst deal in the history of the world and we obviously do not have the bottle to leave.
