Letter: Disabled car bays misused
It appears that goodwill towards disabled people appears to stop at the house door.
Commercial vehicles parking in the bays at Shrewsbury Market Hall while servicing buildings, private hire vehicles (non-black cabs) parked across disabled bays at Shrewsbury Rail Station – that's when they are not taken up by deliveries, Shropshire Council removing three bays (replacing them with two and a half) for taxis . . .
I could carry on but the excuses are absurd: "I only popped in", "I'm working (private hire) so that's ok", "Oh chill out, it's only a parking bay". Strangely those parking bays are there to allow people with disabilities to fully participate in life.
The appropriate bodies should start enforcing the bays properly. There is an old but true phrase – take my space, take my disability. If only it were that simple.
