Letter: Hats off to Shropshire Defend Our NHS campaign

A huge cheer for the Shropshire Defend Our NHS campaign which played a central role in persuading the Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group to refuse, on Tuesday, to support Shropshire & Telford Hospital Trust's plan to close one of the county's A&E hospitals.

This closure was a central pillar of the now hugely discredited "Future Fit" programme.

The campaign, once dismissed as "a bunch of trouble-makers", has refused all attempts to marginalise it.

It has doggedly pursued its aim until it is now a highly-respected force in the battle for the future of the NHS in the county.

Its views are regularly sought by the press and the BBC. This position has been achieved by determined hard-work, good organisation, excellent publicity and PR but, above all, by evidence-based argument to destroy the fictions of Future Fit.

The campaign will continue and anyone who cares about a free NHS would do well to join it or,get on its mailing list at (https://shropshiredefendournhs.org/).
