Letter: NHS must be saved

I am glad that we now have a PM with experience behind her and that she intends to be fair minded to the workers and the low paid.

This surely means that she must avoid the destruction of the much loved NHS.

It seems that certain right wingers have planned for years to rid the nation of this obstacle to the rise of the highly profitable health insurance market. However they would have to find a way to do it so others get the blame rather than they themselves. (Provoking an argument with the doctors seems to be one way).

Private care can be a treat for those who can afford it but not as a replacement for the NHS. Insurance companies love to take the money but seemed to also love finding some small print to avoid paying out thus leaving some sick claimant in deep financial trouble. Will they insure the seriously sick with long term problems AND at a reasonable cost? However if we value a NHS we will have to find the money for it but we must be sure that the boast of any extra government cash is not just clever accountancy.

I wish this new Prime Minister well and trust that she will be able to resist any bullying from the rich party donors.
