Access to the Single Market? The whole world is our market

I do not understand all this emphasis on something called the Single Market as though it was the “be all and end all “ of our very existence.

Britain has voted to leave the EU

The whole world is our market, for example I have trousers from Cambodia, pyjamas from Vietnam, trouser belt from India, underwear from Sri Lanka, sweatshirts from Bangladesh, towels from Turkey (made with Egyptian cotton), the products we buy from China are too numerous to list – note no EU countries amongst these.

Also a spokesperson for JCB, one of our leading companies, when speaking on national TV last year about their export success did not mention one EU country.

Although I did see in our Shropshire Star 10/01/18 "Snow worry for the JCBs" that they have just supplied France with two snow clearance machines, albeit adapted in France, but obviously machines not available in Europe.

Now we see on the front page of the Shropshire Star dated 15/01/18 that "Brexit is hitting economy". There is always two sides to the coin and the pessimists and doom and gloom mongers will have their say, fortunately there is also a great deal of optimism.

As in the Shropshire Star dated 23/12/17, there was an article headed "Manufacturing speeds up" and to repeat just one paragraph, as follows: "Production gathered pace thanks to a raft of new orders that companies attributed to solid domestic demand and export business driven by higher sales to clients in Europe, the Americas, Asia and the Middle East."

So all in all not much going on with the EU.

I have said it before and I am not afraid to repeat it, all that the EU is interested in is our billions of pounds to bail them out of the mess that this failed experiment is in. Oh and all their car exports to the UK.

It is high time our politicians, those with any backbone, thought first of the fantastic United Kingdom and told Europe in no uncertain terms where to go.

The EU is in no position to demand anything from us and they need to be told so.
