Join fight for bridleways around The Wrekin
Do you enjoy horse riding or cycling, in, around or over The Wrekin, Ercall or Limekiln Woods?
Did you know that these routes are under threat? And that you don’t legally have the right to enjoy such pursuits?
Since 1999 Telford Bridleways Association have been campaigning to have these routes recognised as official bridleways but the council have simply done nothing.
If a route as official bridleway status then cyclists and horse riders are allowed to use it. Councils may be reluctant to agree public bridleway status as they are then obliged, along with the local landowners, to maintain the upkeep of such routes.
The Wrekin plays an important part in the social and recreational lives of all those that live and work within the Telford and Wrekin Council area – that’s why Telford Development Corporation changed it’s name.

Having these routes classed as public bridleways will not necessarily mean more horses or cyclists will descend on The Wrekin. It will however mean that they will be able to continue to use and enjoy these ancient recreational routes in the future.
