Good doctor missed the wonder of Shrewsbury
In reply to Dr Mayer Hillman’s letter, claiming that the streets of Shrewsbury are as bad as in London regarding traffic.
Dr Mayer says that he has visited Shrewsbury for the first time in 20 years and that pedestrians are at risk from lack of crossings, and volume of traffic, well I’m sorry to disappoint you but there are many available crossings in and around the town and centre, if you look for them.
It seems to me that the good doctor must have been on what was a flying visit, because he does not mention the despicable council misplanning that has left our main Pride Hill looking like a bad case of masonry fly tipping.
Apart from this, I think Shrewsbury as county town of this beautiful county of Shropshire, has many other wonderful examples of both architecture and parks.
Doctor Hillman, I notice, is so knowledgeable about Shrewsbury, that he doesn’t seem clear as to the question of it being a town or city. Did they never hear the term ‘Proud Salopian’ where Shrewsbury rejected city status and remained a town?
I myself was born in Wem 10 miles down the road, so I am both a proud ‘Treacle Miner’ and ‘Salopian’, where I have worked since 1970 and enjoyed immensely, now I am retired.
