Shropshire Council said it would carry out work to clear the culvert

TREE EXERCISE WASTE OF TIME

It was reported in the Star that two trees will be cut down as part the Shrewsbury Town Centre Gyratory Project. It is reported that the trees will be cut down even though a “consultation” resulted in “huge opposition” to cutting them down. It is plainly obvious the council had decided the trees had to go to complete the scheme, so the “consultation” was a waste of time and money. Not only that, but the “consultation” wrongly raised people’s hope that the trees might be saved when that was never going to be the case.

I suppose the council will say it has a legal duty to hold a “consultation” – even though the result will be ignored – which makes it all the more ridiculous and typical of so much wasted time and money in our local and national governments.

Still, I suppose the residents of Shrewsbury should be thankful that three trees have been saved.
